Description: Growing up in a house where everybody had creative hobbies, John has always enjoyed making things with his hands. A part time knifemaker and retired architect, John Arnold finds both joy and satisfaction in designing and constructing well balanced, well proportioned and beautiful knives. The Knifemakers Guild of South Africa recognized John's skill and accepted him as a member in September 2006. John currently is on the membership committee of the KGSA.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky smooth, drop shut action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous front flipper toggle. It uses an IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
The blade is hand ground premium SG2 San Mai damascus forged by Takefu Special Steel in Japan. A central bar of Takefu SG2 powdered metallurgical stainless steel is surrounded by alternating layers of stainless steel and nickel. This folder has among the best edge holding of any John Arnold knife ever made. The resulting damascus is high contrast and immediately captivating. The linear damascus reveals John's complex, super-clean grinds. The flats are polished, nearly hiding the pattern. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
Handle scales are silver strike carbon fiber. The scales meet perfectly with heat colored zirconium bolsters. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is resistant to corrosion and scuffing. A pure silver border is inlaid, following the profile of the bolster adding a gentleman's elegance to the knife. Blue anodized titanium liners surround a carbon fiber backbar. The blue anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
