Description: Visiting Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey during my trips to South Africa is always a highlight of my trip.
The 8 inch chef's knife is the essential kitchen knife. It's used for all-around food preparation. From chopping, to slicing, to mincing, this chef's knife is sure to become your go-to knife in the kitchen.
Mastersmith Kevin Harvey began this elegant chef's knife by forging his own damascus to shape. The pattern is extremely engaging and encourages closer examination. By using carbon steels, Harvey ensures a keen, long lasting edge. The ricasso accommodates a comfortable pinch grip. The blade is distal tapered to create an excellent balance in hand. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and wood handle.
The handle is Australian York gum burl (Eucalyptus loxophleba), combining heartwood and sapwood into an elegant handle. This wood, endemic to Western Australia, has a swirling grain structure that nicely complements the damascus blade.
Nickel silver bolsters are hand engraved by Kevin. Black and white fiber spacers help the stabilized wood adjust to humidity and temperature changes in the kitchen.
To keep the knife protected during transportation, an embossed cowhide leather sheath made by Kevin is included.
