Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey is well known for his tremendous attention to detail -- only matched by his skill at design. Historic inspired bowie knives have been a long term inspiration for Kevin. The "dog bone" bowie style was popular in the 1830's, with many produced by Sheffield cutlers and imported to America. It is easily recognized by its distinctive pommel which gives the knife its name. The Dog Bone frame provides a very secure hold in the hand. Regretfully, few of Mastersmith Harvey's knives make it to the US these days and I was extremely excited when this one arrived at our gallery.
The 9 inch clip point blade was forged to shape from 1070 carbon steel. A differential heat treatment ensures a keen long lasting edge with a softer, supportive spine.
The handle combines hand contoured ringed gidgee (Acacia cambagei) with nickel silver fittings. The ferrule is engraved by Mastersmith Harvey.
This knife is accompanied by custom leather sheath with genuine ostrich leather inlay.
Absolutely exceptional work throughout!
