Description: When I recently visited Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey at their home in Belfast, South Africa, I was very pleased to see they had some of their knives available. Kevin and Heather teach bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn their techniques. Kevin uses the Heavin Forge mark on his knives when he creates a knife while demonstrating for his classes. This is one such knife.
The 4-1/3 inch drop point blade was forged from 5160 carbon steel. It was forged closely to shape, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. The blade is polished on the flats and features a hand rubbed satin finish in the grinds. The Heavin Forge mark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is stabilized Australian Lace Sheoak (Allocasuarina fraseriana). This durable wood has a beautiful grain structure and warm red tones. The gently rounded handle fills your hand nicely and provides a comfortable grip. A distal tapered full tang gives this knife a perfect balance. The handle is finished with white fiber liners that contrast elegantly against the wood scales.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched, tooled cowhide sheath.
