Description: Visiting with Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey is always a highlight of my trips to South Africa. Kevin and Heather are one of only a few husband and wife Mastersmith teams in the world and have been extremely influential through the knifemaking school they founded called Heavin Forge. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey teaches bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn his techniques. He uses the Heavin Forge mark on his knives when he creates a knife while demonstrating for his classes. This is one such knife.
Mastersmith Kevin Harvey began this elegant chef's utility knife by forging his own damascus to shape. By forging the damascus from carbon steels, Harvey ensures a keen, long lasting edge.
This integral chef's utility knife is multipurpose and very, very handy. The utility knife has a narrow, blade that's perfect for a multitude of small tasks where more precise cuts are needed. Trimming green beans, cutting cauliflower florets, cutting sandwiches in half — all are tasks well suited to this Integral Damascus Chef's Utility Knife. Utility knives are sometimes called sandwich knives because they work well on almost everything that goes into a sandwich — from thin-skinned vegetables such as tomatoes, to meats and cheeses. This utility knife would even make an elegant personal steak knife!
Showing his mastery in the forge, Kevin forged the entire knife from a single billet of his damascus. Creating a fully integral knife in a custom environment is tremendously difficult.
A distal taper to the blade provides optimal balance. The handle swells just past the ricasso, providing a comfortable, secure grip.
To protect it when carried, this elegant Chef's Utility Knife is accompanied by a custom hand sewn leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
