Description: Bladesmith Kevin Slattery hails from Australia. I was very excited when Mastersmith Bill Burk introduced me to his work back in 2018. His work has continued to develop and refine over the years and he is clearly a maker to watch.
This high performance chef's knife is a perfect choice as a primary knife in the kitchen. The blade is well suited for slicing vegetables, meats, and more. The gentle arc of the cutting edge is perfect for a rocking, chopping motion with plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board. At 91/2 inches, it is a perfect size for either the professional or home chef. This knife is sure to become your kitchen favorite.
The blade was forged closely to shape from 52100 carbon steel. 52100 is considered by many knife users and knifemakers to be among the best steels used for high performance knives today. This carbon steel ensures an extremely sharp, exceptionally long lasting edge. After heat treatment, the blade was given an hand rubbed satin finish. Because this knife is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to avoid rust and oxidation.
The handle is hand contoured ringed gidgee wood (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee is an exceptional wood for knife handles and is considered to be one of Australia's most beautiful timbers. It has tremendous stability even when exposed to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. It is among the densest woods in the world and has a beautiful curl similar to Hawaiian koa. A black fiber spacer assists the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
Exceptional work throughout!
