Description: This custom D Guard Bowie was made by Steve Grosvenor (Red Rock Tools) of Beresford, South Dakota. Steve is a Forged in Fire champion (season 4, episode 9) and an American Bladesmith Society Journeyman Smith. He is also a former US Army Airborne Infantry solider and fabricator. Today, he is a full time bladesmith specializing in the high performance forged blade.
The 9-3/4 inch drop point blade is Steve's own chevron pattern damascus forged from Cru Forge V and L6 carbon steels to provide high toughness and edge holding. Steve's mark is on the left ricasso. A large recurve creates excellent cutting power for heavy duty tasks. Because the blade is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and natural wood handle.
The handle is contoured maple, secured to a hidden tang. Steve forged the wrought iron guard into the shape of a "D," designed to protect your hand. The antique wrought iron was made around 1880. A fileworked bronze and stainless steel spacer finishes the handle.
This elegant bowie really shows Steve's creativity as a bladesmith.
