Description: Charlie Ellis first struck hammer to steel in 2005 and has since traveled from Maine to North Carolina in pursuit of the perfect blade. In 2007, he enrolled in the Hand Wrought Metals program at Haywood College in Clyde, North Carolina. There, he learned a great deal from David Burnette, Mastersmith Jason Knight, as well as a host of others through the school's partnership with the American Bladesmith Society. Since 2014, he has been a full time blacksmith living in the mountains of western North Carolina with his wife and son.
This elegant utility knife was inspired by the Scottish Sgian Dubh, which translates as 'black or hidden knife'. It is traditionally worn tucked into the top of the kilt hose with only the upper portion of the hilt visible.
The blade on this sgain dubh was forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. Many knifemakers and knife collectors feel that 52100 is the highest performance steel currently used for knives. The blade is finished with a non-reflective Black Magic oxide finish. The spine is nicely rounded for a comfortable grip. Charlie's maker's mark is on the right side of the blade.
Contoured blue G-10 handle scales are set on the full tang for strength and durability.
It will be easy to keep this knife close by using the black leather sheath mounted with an ULTI-CLIP.
An exceptional knife that is sure to become a daily companion.
