Description: Washington knifemaker, C. Luis Pina, is an exceptional bladesmith and specializes in kitchen knives. Luis' past career as a chef provides him with an understanding of culinary knives that is rarely found in bladesmiths.
This 5-1/2 inch chef's knife will quickly become a kitchen favorite - it is perfect for the cook who prefers a smaller, more maneuverable knife. The 5-1/2" blade is a perfect choice for slicing meats, vegetables, and fruit. Whether chopping or slicing, this is sure to be your goto knife.
Pina began forging this integral knife beginning with 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. The bold patterned damascus is immediately captivating. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend camellia oil to avoid rust and oxidation. By forging closely to shape, he ensures optimal grain structure for a keen, long lasting edge. The blade is beautifully thin for clean, precise cuts.
The bolster is integral to the blade, with the damascus pattern moving seamlessly from bolster to blade. This technique has superior structural integrity and requires a particularly talented smith.
The handle is contoured from stabilized curly koa wood, perfectly fit to the integral bolster. Brass and black fiber spacers add a nice contrast. The bolster is contoured to encourage a comfortable pinch grip, though the handle is also exceptionally comfortable when held further back. The handle is carved to swell at the palm, move into a slimmer waist and swell again at the end of the handle.
This is a knife you won't want to put down!
