Description: Koji Hara's knives are well known for their precision and craftsmanship. This folder has been in a private collection since it was made in 2018. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, Koji could have made it yesterday.
The blade is hand ground Cowry Y stainless steel. Koji was well known for using Cowry Y, though unfortunately, his supply ran out several years ago and this unique, high performance steel is no longer made. Cowry Y is capable of a higher hardness (67 Hrc!) without being brittle. The resulting blade has excellent edge retention. The mirror polished surface is only possible through meticulous hand polishing with a toothbrush! Today, it is particularly rare to find knives made with Cowry Y. The blade can be easily opened using the goldlip mother of pearl thumb stud. The blade is well centered and has consistent, smooth action.
420 stainless steel bolsters surround amboyna burl handle scales. The dramatic wood has a swirling figure. The bolsters are mirror polished and tsuchime textured. The backbar was meticulously inlaid with sections of goldlip mother of pearl.
The knife is accompanied by a custom pouch made from antique kimono fabric.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
