This Noah Flipper is a masterpiece! The blade is instantly opened using the jimped flipper tab. The 3-1/2 inch modified tanto blade is hand ground, mirror polished OU-31 semi-stainless steel. OU-31 ensures an exceptionally keen, long lasting edge. The front grind is flat ground, while the back section is hollow ground.
Ball bearings ensure, silky-smooth drop shut actionwith a perfectly centered blade.
The ergonomic handle combines Duralumin with iro-urushi carbon fiber. Duralumin is a strong, hard, lightweight alloy of aluminum used in aircraft construction. It was patented in 1909 by Alfred Wilm, a German metallurgist and was originally made only at the company Dürener Metallwerke at Düren, Germany. (The name is a contraction of Dürener and aluminum). Iro-urushi is a technique where traditional Japanese lacquer (urushi) is baked several times and then textured with Ohaguro, a solution of burnt iron set in Japanese sake and vinegar. The results are exceptional and dramatic.
The handle shape gives you a rock-solid grip in both the forward and reverse grips. Dew used Microtech's tamper-proof screws to put this knife together. A small finger choil provides a perfect rest for precise cutting tasks. Jimping on the thumb ramp ensures a secure grip.
The Noah Flipper is an extremely interesting looking piece, showing Dew Hara's Japanese heritage and the influence of his time working at Microtech. The knife is accompanied by both a zipper case and a Japanese Kimono cloth pouch. It is easy to keep the Noah close by using the right side, tip-up pocket clip.
Exceptional work throughout!
