Description: Dew (Ryuichi) Hara is the adult son of renowned knifemaker Koji Hara. Dew grew up in a knife family and naturally got involved with the knifemaking by helping his father and learning his techniques. Koji Hara is well known for creating art knives with tremendous precision and detailed inlays. After working in his father's workshop for over 20 years, Dew decided to create his own knives. This Raikiri Flipper is in mint condition. It was kept in a private collection since it was made in July 2018. By all appearances, Dew could have made it yesterday.
The clip point blade is formed from ultra-high performing OU-31 stainless steel. The grinds are mirror polished. The flats are hand satin finished. Both feature a golden finish. The blade runs on bearings and is easily opened using the ambidextrous flipper mechanism. It is perfectly centered and has smooth action.
The handle combines Duralumin set on 420 stainless steel liners. Duralumin is a strong, hard, lightweight alloy of aluminum used in aircraft construction. It was patented in 1909 by Alfred Wilm, a German metallurgist and was originally made only at the company Dürener Metallwerke at Düren, Germany. (The name is a contraction of Dürener and aluminum). The handle is treated with layers of Japanese lacquer and gold foil to create a dramatic patterned antiqued patina. Textured and colored 420 stainless steel are jewel polished on the interior. The backbar matches the handle. The satin finished pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry is marked "019" and his makers mark.
Excellent work throughout!
