Description: Lourens Prinsloo made his first knife in 1996, shortly after attending a knifemaking course with Owen Wood. In 1998 he became a member of the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa. Prior to his retirement in 2016, Lourens taught engineering, graphic design, woodworking, and metalwork. This range of experience helped him tackle the challenges that exist with creating high performing folders that are beautiful as well as functional. His main focus is making gentleman's folding knives, specifically liner locks, designed to be carried and used.
The 3 inch blade is hand ground from 12C27 stainless steel. 12C27 is created by Sandvik in Sweden. This steel takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. 12C27 maintains high toughness, high chip resistance, and good corrosion resistance -- it is a well rounded choice for a high performing cutlery steel. A hand rubbed satin finish adds to the heirloom appearance. The blade has smooth action and is easily opened using the right handed thumb stud.
Rooibos wood (Aspalathus linearis) scales are fit perfectly to textured stainless steel bolsters. Titanium liners keep the knife light, yet strong and surround a stainless steel backbar.
Nice work throughout!
