Description: Swedish knifemaker Greger Forselius has a flair for design. This Nordic Hunter shows his work at its best!
The 5-1/2 inch blade was hand forged by Konstantin Lysenko in Donetsk, Ukraine. The complex feather pattern damascus is immediately captivating. The blade is hollow ground for a high performance, easy to maintain edge.
The handle is made from stacked layers of birch bark. Brass inlays, along with a front guard and pommel add a nice accent. The stacked birch bark handle is a traditional Scandinavian technique. Birch bark has been used for many hundreds of years as a waterproof construction material. Items historically made with birch bark include kitchenware, paper, roofing, and boats, among others. One potential reason that birch bark handles were common in Scandinavia is that as well as being aethetically pleasing, the bark has low thermal conductivity. This means that the handle will feel warmer in the winter than almost any handle you could put on a knife -- which is great when the gloves have to come off for delicate work.
To keep the knife close at hand, a traditional Swedish single seamed leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
