Description: Artist Tom Sterling combines sculpture and function into unique masterpieces that are rarely matched elsewhere. Each creation is an original museum quality work, evocative of times long past. Long fascination with many artistic and historic disciplines have led to artistic interpretations of the tools and weapons of bygone times, resulting in a fascinating fusion of cultures. Nordic, Celtic, Aztec, Mayan and Northwest Native American influences are often noticeable.
The blade and full tang of this little push dagger was forged from 1084 carbon steel. It is completed with Tom's 'knapped steel' technique, so as to resemble a flint knapped knife. This technique is only possible from Sterling's experience with flint knapped knives over the many years of his using traditional knapping techniques to create stone knives. The edges of the dagger culminate into 'knapped' serrations.
Tellurium copper handle scales have been hand engraved into a Mayan theme. Details are inlaid with 24K gold. The engraving details really show Tom's tremendous talent as an engraver. The handle feels exceptional and provides a firm grip. Tom's maker mark is on the ricasso.
A box made of Mayan bloodwood (Brosimum angustifolium) is included for storage and display. The box is hand fit to the dagger and includes a lid that secures firmly in place using two small rare earth magnets.
This is an exceptional push dagger that is sure to be a centerpiece of any collection!
