Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey is well known for his tremendous attention to detail -- only matched by his skill at design. He is well known around the world for producing extremely high quality hunting knives at a price that would be hard to find anywhere in the United States. Kevin and Heather Harvey are one of only a few husband and wife Mastersmith teams in the world and have been extremely influential through the knifemaking school they founded called Heavin Forge. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey teaches bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn his techniques.
The drop point blade is formed from Laddered W's damascus hand forged from carbon steels. The high contrast pattern is is extremely engaging. The spine has been nicely rounded for a comfortable thumb purchase. Kevin's maker mark is shown on the left side of the blade.
The handle is sculpted from red ivory wood (Berchemia zeyheri). This vibrantly colored, dense, and extraordinary wood is one of the rarest woods in the world. Possession of the wood was once punishable by death if you were not a Zulu king. Tree heights generally range from 20-35 feet tall with diameters of 6-12 inches. Due to its small stature, the yield is small, adding to the rarity of this species. It is found scattered along the southeastern African plains. Only the heartwood produces the stunning color. Even that is more commonly a lighter pink tone. An African blackwood spacer is surrounded by black and white fibers to help the handle adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The copper guard is meticulously hand engraved by Mastersmith Kevin Harvey.
To keep the knife close at hand, a pouch style tooled leather sheath is included.
Exceptional work throughout!
