Description: Whip Tail has been seven years in the making. Seattle knifemaker Jeff Driscoll started work on this knife in 2013 after his parents had passed away. It was a tribute to them. This knife is among Driscoll's master works to date. Care and attention to detail are everywhere on it.
The heat colored blade was forged from 15N20 and 20C carbon steels by renowned Swedish knifemaker Johan Gustaffson. Highly detailed mosaic damascus dragons are tiled to form the center of the blade. An explosion pattern edge bar ensure a high performance tool.
The dragon heaad is Arizona desert ironwood (Olneya tesota). It was carved from a single piece and hollowed out. The carving, which was inspired by Northwest Native American imagery is beautifully done. It was carved entirely by hand. The eyes are formed from 2.23 ct pyrope garnet from Tailand. The round facet shape works beautifully for the eyes. The shroud is formed from dyed and hardened leather and lined with fiber composite and leather bunting.
The hand carved handle is formed from 100 year old high grade cabinet oak. Tail decoration and bolster are brass. The bolster is inlaid with 3.47 ct pyrope garnets.
The knife can be inserted into the sheath so that the tail moves either up or down. A tremendous desk knife and an inspired work of art.
Absolutely spectacular!
