Description: South African knifemaker Willie van der Merwe hails from Hartbeespoort. Though he started making knives in 2016, he has already developed into a spectacularly creative and focused knifemaker. Given the tremendous skill of his work, it is no surprise that he won Best New Knifemaker at the 2018 Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa Show.
This dagger shows Willie's tremendous. The leaf-shape blade is perfectly ground from N690 stainless steel. The high polish is a perfect choice for the symmetrical blade.
The quillion guard and pommel were formed from antiqued bronze. Polished nickel silver spacer provide a nice accent. The rounded handle is formed from jet black African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon).
This dagger is able to be fully disassembled for maintenance and cleaning. Creating a knife that is able to do this shows a particularly good attention to detail and precision.
This is the 97th knife that Willie has made to date.
Exceptional work throughout.
