Description: Lourens Prinsloo made his first knife in 1996, shortly after attending a knifemaking course with Owen Wood. In 1998 he became a member of the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa. Prior to his retirement in 2016, Lourens taught engineering, graphic design, woodworking, and metalwork. This variety of experience helped him tackle the challenges that exist with creating high performing folders that are beautiful as well as functional. His main focus is making gentleman's folding knives, specifically liner locks, designed to be carried and used.
The 3.2 inch blade is formed from N690 stainless steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 59. N690 is created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping.
The blade is perfectly centered with smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous flipper toggle.
Lala palm (Hyphaene coriacea) scales are fit perfectly to mosaic damascus forged by Prinsloo. The highly controlled pattern immediately grabs attention. Lala palm is native to Southern Africa. The medium brown wood has darker figure moving through it. Titanium liners keep the knife light, yet strong and surround a stainless steel backbar.
Excellent work throughout!
