Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor has wanted to make a Khukri for many years. The Gurkha knife has inspired many knifemakers over the years and it is no surprise that this legendary blade affected Shane's (already creative) imagination. Taylor combined the traditional Khukri with his batwing fighter to create the Khuki Bat.
The blade was forged to shape from Shane's own damascus. He combined two separate bars of damascus to create the highly complex and fascinating pattern. Each side features fullers to lighten the blade. A large recurve gives this kukri massive chopping power.
The handle combines forged bronze with carved cocobolo wood. The aether pattern was created by forging the bronze using custom dies. Images of skulls floating on the aether are displayed in detail. Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) handle scales are exceptionally dramatic. They are a nice mix of warm, red/brown tones with black lines going through the figure. The scales are beautifully contoured for a secure, comfortable, swinging grip. They are set on a full tang with textured and heat colored screws. Both the blade and tang are distal tapered, ensuring a perfect sense of balance. This Khukri is relatively light and extremely nimble. You won't be able to resist swinging it!
Absolutely exceptional!
