Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Nomad EDC liner lock is a flipper design and a fantastic utility folder. The drop point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed for the task at hand.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives. His fit and finish is on par with the best makers out there!
The 3-1/2 inch drop point blade is made from M390 stainless steel hardened to 61 HRC. The blade is satin finished in the hollow grind and swedge, while polished on the flats. M390 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it due to its high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The blade is perfectly centered and silky smooth -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
The handle combines lightning strike carbon fiber with a zirconium bolster. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is highly resistant to corrosion and scratching. A Timascus titanium damascus pivot collar adds just the right amount of 'pop'. The handle nicely domed for a comfortable grip. Liners are anodized to a dark bronze tone. Jimping on the titanium backbar provides traction when pulling the knife from the pocket. The bronze anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Exceptional work throughout!
