Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Tarpon Flipper is a beautiful utility folder that will feel as comfortable in the pocket as it would in any collection. The spear point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed for the task at hand. The folder has incredibly smooth action thanks to IKBS. The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. The flipper is tremendously easy to use.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail and passion for his craft is clearly evident in his knives. His fit and finish is on par with the best makers out there!
The blade is formed from M390 stainless steel, a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. M390 takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it due to its high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hollow ground for easy maintenance.
Camel thorn, also known as giraffe thorn wood scales meet perfectly with lightning strike carbon fiber bolsters. Camel thorn (Vachellia erioloba) grows only in South Africa and can grow to be up to 50 feet tall. The name 'camel thorn' refers to the fact that giraffe (kameelperd in Afrikaans) commonly feeds on the leaves with their specially-adapted tongue and lips that can avoid the thorns. Bronze anodized titanium liners surround a matching lightning strike carbon fiber backbar. The blackened titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
