Description: S-Guard Hamon Bowie with African Blackwood is an exceptional example of Raymond Richard's work. It has an elegance and timeless sense to it that wouldn't be out of place by the side of an American pioneer, bravely breaking ground in a new land. It captures the spirit of a time gone by - yet has the excellence one expects from a contemporary knifemaker.
The 7-1/4 inch blade has a graceful, swooping clip. An appleseed grind ensures a very strong cutting edge. A gently undulating line (called a hamon) travels along the blade. This shows the transition between the keen, hard cutting edge and the softer, supportive spine.
The S guard, ferrule and end cap were hand forged from antiqued wrought iron recovered from an 1850s era wagon wheel. The distressed wrought iron has a nearly damascene pattern. The handle is formed from jet black African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon). The combination of black wood and wrought iron is elegant and high contrast.
Excellent fit and finish throughout with a great balance.
