Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Barlow slip joint is a fantastic utility folder. The spear point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed and implemented.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives.
The 2-3/4 inch blade is made from N690 stainless steel hardened to 59HRC with a satin finish. N690 is created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping.
The blade is well centered with a firm half stop -- easily opened with the right handed thumb nick.
The handle is made from African tamboti wood Spirostachys africana. The dense, resinous wood has a warm brown tone with straight grain. The right scale features a stainless escutcheon. Black linen Micarta creates a 'bolster'. An antique Westinghouse Micarta spacer provides exceptional contrast that is immediately captivating.
Exceptional work throughout!
