Description: South African knifemakers André Thorburn and André van Heerden create exceptional folders at an amazingly low price. When they collaborate on knives together they work under the A2 brand. M45 is a model developed by van Heerden. It began as a design by French designer Tashi Bharucha. Tashi's bold, modernistic curves are readily apparent and combined with the Andres' acute attention to detail, the results are a precision made piece with artful execution! The M45 is a more compact version of van Heerden's renowned M35 Righteous Folder. The smaller size makes it a perfect knife for daily carry!
The blade is formed from high performing RWL-34 stainless steel. RWL 34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is manufactured from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel much higher strength and resistance to cracking. The knife has a swedge that runs nearly the length of the spine. A hollow grind makes for easy sharpening and shows off the clean, dramatic grind lines. Jimping on the thumb rest ensures a steadfast purchase.
The blade is easily opened with a simple flick of the wrist or using the flipper mechanism. It is perfectly centered and has silky smooth action -- caused in part by the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create impeccably smooth action with no blade play.
The handle is shaped from silver strike carbon fiber and fills out the hand perfectly. Aluminum wires travel through the carbon weave. Bold curves for finger grooves and a gentle curving back ensure a secure grip in any position, while retaining a nimbleness that makes this knife feel as though it disappears in the hand. Anodized titanium liners surround the carbon fiber backbar. A pierced titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Exceptional fit and finish - an exciting collaboration to keep an eye out for!
