Description: Hawk Knife Designs teamed up with Serge Panchenko for their first mid-tech collaboration, the Orbit. With a stylish Panchenko design, the Hawk Lock mechanism, and an adventurous new detent, both collaborators believe this EDC knife will stand out in the mid-tech production market.
The Orbit's blade is made from CTS-204P premium stainless steel with a black Cerakote finish. The unique combination of wear resistance, toughness, polishability, and corrosion resistance makes CTS 204P stainless steel an excellent candidate for high-performance knives. The excellent wear resistance of the alloy is provided by hard vanadium-rich carbides, while the alloy's outstanding corrosion resistance is obtained as a result of the chromium-rich matrix. The application of Carpenter's Micro-Melt PM processing creates a segregation-free and homogeneously fine carbide and grain size distribution. The use of molten metal filtration results in improved cleanliness and toughness compared to conventionally processed material.
The Orbit can be easily opened one handed using the built-in flipper tab. It features the patented Hawk Lock which offers safe and convenient lock-up without the need to put your fingers in the blade's path. This particular iteration of the Hawk Lock packs a new, toggle-style detent. A regular detent works by obstructing the blade until it builds enough force to clear it and flip open, but the toggle detent moves with the blade as it is pushed open. It generates tension as it moves until the toggle detent passes through the center in a frictionless arc. This provides a smooth and consistently easy-to-open action.
The modified coffin shaped handle is made from stonewashed titanium and carbon fiber. The unconventional curves support a comfortable grip for controlled cutting tasks. The Hawk logo is carved on the front of the handle and Serge Panchenko's logo is carved on the reverse. A lanyard can be added easily if desired. This knife includes a titanium pocket clip mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
