Description: This folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005. Ricus' folders combine incredibly smooth action with a high level of fit and finish.
The blade is easily opened by using the inobtrusive front flipper mechanism. A front flipper is more compact than the traditional flipper mechanism and is less likely to get caught on things in a pocket. The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth action due to the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
The drop point blade is made from N690 stainless steel. The blade is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. N690 is a steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for easy, quick touchups.
Handle scales are formed from lightning strike carbon fiber. Stainless steel bolsters are hand-engraved in floral scroll by Belgium-born artist Julien Marchal. Julien studied engraving and gun making at Léon Mignon Liège in Belgium prior to emigrating to South Africa. Fileworked and anodized titanium liners surround an N690 backbar. The contoured handle fills the hand and is very comfortable.
Excellent work throughout!
