Description: Mastersmith Harvey Dean's eye for design and style shine through his work. I was very excited when I heard that he had begun to make straight razors a couple years ago and even more so when I finally got to see his work. He has spent the last two years refining his razors -- and using them himself. He was very lucky to be able to get advice from renowned straight razor maker, Tim Zowada.
The 5/8th" O1 carbon steel blade was hollow ground for a tremendously thin, high performing edge. The steel was brought to 62-63 Hrc for a particularly long lasting edge. This razor has a barber's notch.
Handle scales were made from hand selected ancient bog oak. Bog-wood is a material from trees that have been buried in peat bogs and preserved from decay by the acidic and anaerobic bog conditions. Across thousands of years, the ancient wood hardens and mineralizes. A stainless steel escutcheon is inlaid into the left scale. A cow bone wedge adds just the right amount of contrast.
This is an absolutely spectacular custom straight razor. It is accompanied by a traditional cardboard razor box.
