Description: Johann van Deventer, better known as JD, aims to produce unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on.
This flipper is a tactical folder with absolutely exceptional action. The blade action is silky smooth and easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous front flipper toggle. With a little practice, it can be easily operated with either the first finger or thumb. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
The blade is formed from premium M390 powdered stainless steel for the extreme edge retention, high strength, and the toughness that a hard-use knife demands. Because of its uniform microstructure and stainless properties, M390 is often used in surgical cutting instruments and other applications that require a high finish. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge and has been satin finished in the grinds while being mirror polished on the flats.
The scales are stacked layers of alternating red G10 and carbon fiber. The bolster is very rare lightning strike carbon fiber. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect electricity. Lightning strike carbon fiber is among the hardest to find knifemaking materials. Titanium liners have been hand filed. The titanium backbar has been differentially anodized and textured. The titanium pocket clip is textured and anodized to match the backbar. It is mounted for tip-up carry.
The knife is accompanied by a hand crafted presentation box. The box is designed to resemble a shipping container and includes a miniature pry bar to get it open!
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
