Description: This proud bowie is the 100th knife made by Washington Bladesmith Daniel Erickson. He pulled out all the stops making it and the results are exceptional!
The blade was forged to shape from 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. The firestorm pattern damascus is immediately captivating -- it grabs attention from a distance and holds onto it upon closer examination. By forging the blade to shape, Daniel ensures particularly good edge holding. Additionally, this ensures that the pattern travels along the curved spine. The blade is razor sharp and will have excellent edge holding.
The handle is formed from redwood burl and silver vine woods set together in an intricate puzzle. Both woods have been stabilized so as to assist the knife to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Both woods have tremendous figure that stands up well against the expertly forged blade. The ring guard was forged to shape from wrought iron recovered from a 100 year old Seattle naval ship anchor chain. It is heat blued and shows off the damascene pattern inherent to wrought iron. The wooden scales are set on a full tang. The tang is fileworked at the top to resemble flames (reflected in the flame redwood burl and flames on the sheath). The end of the tang is fileworked with '100' to signify that this is Daniel's 100th knife made.
The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled leather sheath. It is inlaid with frog leather. Flames are hand tooled and colored. A 100 year old Sheffield token is inlaid into the sheath.
The knife is also accompanied by a presentation stand formed from forged from twisted mild steel, an African blackwood support and a redwood burl base (carved into a flame shape).
Absolutely exceptional!
