Description: The handle of this knife grabs your attention immediately. Theuns Prinsloo used crosscuts of a warthog tusk and set them into a red resin. The end result is a very lightweight knife with a handle like no other. Given the dramatic and bright tone of this knife, it is no surprise that Theuns calls it Groot Rooi, or Great Red in Afrikaans.
Theuns paid tribute to his South African national heritage when he created this liner lock folder. Petroglyphs similar to those created by the Namibian Desert Bushmen show hunting scenes and prey. The images are engraved on the interior and exterior of the backbar. The combination of the petroglyphs, texturing and differential anodizing immediately captivates attention.
The blade is 1080 carbon steel, and is differentially heat treated. The gently undulating heat treatment line (called a hamon) is very visible and distinct. The blade is distal tapered and sports a single titanium thumb stud which has been rainbow anodized and topped with a mother of pearl cabochon. Silky smooth action.
A very unique and one-of-a-kind piece.
