Description: This majestic sword-walking stick shows off Michael Rader's fine woodworking skills, which provide an excellent complement to his bladesmithing. Michael was honored as a Mastersmith in June 2010. His work combines aesthetics drawn from Medieval and Far East influences, melding them together into dramatic pieces with a distinctive and inspired design. What collector - of either walking sticks or weaponry - hasn't seen a beautifully crafted staff sword and wanted one of their own?
Michael began by hand forging the blade to shape from 1086 carbon steel. A hand satin finish lends an heirloom quality. The blade nestles snugly in the black walnut sheath that forms the remainder of the staff, separated from the black walnut handle by a black G10 bolster. When fitted together, the join between all three pieces is almost imperceptible -- with the walnut's grain pattern continuing from handle and onto the sheath. Absolutely stunning work. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
