Description: Jonny Walker Nilsson is one the true masters of the Sami styled knife. His work has been recognized for its innovations while working within this very traditional medium. Mattias Styrefors is one of the true masters of Damascus steel. Since 2006, Jonny and Mattias, long time friends, began working together and sharing their arts. The results are exceptional!
The complex blade combines three bars of damascus into an immediately captivating knife. 20C and 15N20 results in both exceptional edge holding and a dramatic contrast. A reindeer antler circle has been inlaid into the blade and is bears with Jonny and Mattias' marks on the left side and a Sami motif on the right side.
The mosaic handle combines sections formed from fossil walrus ivory, rare musk ox horn and desert ironwood. Musk ox antler and fossil walrus ivory have both been meticulously hand engraved in a traditional Sami motif (the pattern is not scrimshaw, it is hand engraving darkened with pine bark powder). Mosaic damascus is inlaid into the right side of the handle and depicts complex images of reindeer around a star.
The knife is accompanied by a traditional Swedish leather pouch style sheath. It has been hand tooled and is inlaid with reindeer antler. Exceptional work throughout!
