Description: Fred Ott's work is inspirational -- there simply is no other word to describe it. This Hunter is a perfect example of Fred's clean work showcasing excellent fit and finish and great design. This hunter was in a private collection since 2008. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances, it could have been made yesterday!
The 4-1/2 inch drop point blade was forged from 1086M carbon steel. Fred borrowed a technique from Japanese swords and gave the blade a clay zone heat treatment. The line (called a hamon) that travels along the blade shows the transition between the softer, resilient spine and the keen, long lasting cutting edge. Fred's touchmark is on the left side ricasso. We recommend using camellia oil to protect the carbon steel blade from rust.
The handle is a downturned section of amber stag. The natural texture from the horn provides a comfortable grip. An end cap of buffalo horn nicely complements the stag. The handle is finished with a polished nickel silver guard.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled and dyed leather custom sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
