Description: I am very pleased to show Mastersmith John Horrigan’s work on BladeGallery. John’s work has a rarely found precision and the end result in this take-down sword is inspiring. The sheer size (with an overall length of 24 1/4 inches!) of this impressive Hunter's Sword immediately grabs attention. Upon further inspection, this knife's perfection becomes all the more impressive and captivating.
John hand forged the satin-finished blade from 1095 carbon steel. A differential heat treatment using the Japanese clay technique resulted in a distinctive hamon. His signature, “Horrigan MS” appears on the ricasso. The blade enters the handle in an elegant gun blued mild steel S-guard. John continues to add interest with a mild steel ferrule inlaid and engraved with a pure silver leaf design. The handle is a solid piece of presentation grade fossil walrus ivory with warm tones of caramel and burnt cream. The result is a handle that is both engaging and feels great in the hand. A sculpted pommel of matching mild steel features a Texas Ranger five point silver star in the center. This exceptional piece is accompanied by a caiman leather sheath with 416 stainless steel throat and tip. The sheath features a matching Texas Ranger star. Outstanding work throughout!
