Description: The Daisy Pendant is a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry created by engraving and carving shibuichi. Shibuichi means "one-fourth" in Japanese and indicates the standard formulation of one part silver to four parts copper. Until the Meiji reforms (late 19th century), when swordsmiths began to make purely decorative objects instead of swords, shibuichi was used to ornament various fittings for katana.
The pendant measures approximately 1 inch by 7/8 inches and shows a detailed daisy. The backing is .999 fine silver. This pendant clearly shows Tom's experience making netsuke (small sculptural objects, or toggles, usually worn to suspend objects hung from the sash of the kimono).
The pendant is accompanied by a 23 inch braided cotton necklace with a forged copper closure. Exceptional work throughout!
