Description: Corrie Schoeman’s knives are world renowned for their beautiful, unique designs. His artistry and design sense are immediately identifiable. Corrie started making knives over 30 years ago while attending school. His first knife was a big Bowie made from a car spring and he obtained a piece of stag from his local zoo for the handle. Fellow students were enthralled and he began taking orders to make more. Even after earning two university degrees, he continued to make knives part-time, but it became such a passion that he is now a full-time knifemaker. He has been a member of the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa since 1985 and one of three members of the prospective member evaluation committee. Today, he makes folders and automatics using the best exotic materials. His folders have fileworked liners and backstraps, with attention paid to every detail. This dramatic wharncliffe folder shows off his work at its best.
The damascus used on the blade was forged in extremely small runs by Ettoré Gianferarri in South Africa. Regrettably, Gianferrarri has retired from bladesmithing and you are unlikely to see this intricate damascus anywhere else. The bolsters were cast by South African bladesmith Bertie Rietveld and have a convoluted, appealing appearance to the surface. He calls this his "Elephant Skin" pattern. The blade is easily opened using the faceted ruby thumb stud.
Handle scales are ancient mammoth ivory and have been carved into arced terraces. Textured screws attach both the scales and bolsters. Blue anodized titanium liners have been fileworked. The interior of the liners is mirror polished. The titanium backspacer is hand fileworked and inset with a ruby. By anodizing the backbar prior to the satin finish, Corrie has made the filed sections gold anodized, while the flat surface is a matt satin.
This folder has smooth action and the blade is perfectly centered. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
