Description: The knife combines Japanese and Persian influences into a dramatic presentation. Fred made this knife back in 2009 and it has been in a single private collection. It is in new condition and by all appearances, Fred could have made it yesterday.
Fred Ott's work is exceptional. Showing the influence of Japanese swords on his work, after forging the blade from 1086M carbon steel, Fred clay hardened the blade. This technique results in a soft, supportive spine, with a hard edge -- a perfect combination of sharpness and strength. The border between hard and soft steel is the repetitive, gently undulating pattern known in Japan as a gunome hamon.
The handle is formed from a single piece of bocote, incorporating warm, dark tones. A buffalo horn section is surrounded by red fiber spacers, allowing the knife to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. A bronze guard finishes off the knife.
Excellent fit and finish throughout with a great feel in the hand.
