Description: Webb Hammond began by hand forging this blade from 1084 carbon steel and chainsaw chain. The resulting pattern is unique and immediately grabs attention. A differential heat treatment assures a keen, long lasting edge, with a strong, supportive spine. The drop point blade is a perfect skinner shape.
The handle is formed moose antler with a front spacer and pommel formed from Stellar's sea cow rib bone. Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas) is an extinct, large sirenian mammal formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea. It was discovered in the Commander Islands in 1741 by the German naturalist Georg Steller, who was traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. Through an unfortunate combination of being slow, large, and good tasting, by 1768, less than 30 years after it had been discovered, Steller's sea cow was extinct. The front bolster is formed from fossil walrus jaw bone. Nice work throughout!
