Description: Tom Sterling is well known for his knapped stone knives. In the last year, he has begun forging and has been caught with the steel bug. Here, he has combined his new love of the forged blade with his knapped style.
This utility-style "knapped" dagger features a blade hand forged from 1095 carbon steel. The steel was then carved and hot blued to resemble a knapped stone knife. The handle is formed from antiqued elk antler with a boxwood spacer and a desert ironwood spacer. As with his stone knives, the blade is affixed in the handle using rawhide wrapping.
The accompanying sheath is a masterpiece. Rawhide was shaped and hardened to perfectly fit the blade. A snake fetish is carved from moose antler, showing off Tom's carving skills earned from years of working as a netsuke artist. Ornamentation formed from bone, glass, antler, and fossil ivory finish out the sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
