Description: This tanto is the work of Rick Barrett, who has been forging Japanese swords for over 17 years. The blade was forged to shape after Rick created a bold folded steel combining 1095 and 1045 carbon steels. The blade is itame (wood grain pattern resembling the surface of a wooden board). A traditional clay heat treatment results in a hamon in a gunome pattern (repetitive wave pattern). The resulting blade is soft and supportive at the spine, with a very hard blade edge. The nakago (tang) is finished in kiri yasurimei and signed with Mr. Barrett's mark. The kanji reads "Toshi Hisa Saku" ("Toshi Hisa made this"). Toshi Hisa is Rick's given Japanese smiths name.
The blade has been fully polished by Rick and comes with tactically inspired fittings. The saya and handle are both formed from alter and black lacquered and utilizes buffalo horn fittings. The Habaki (blade collar) is pure silver with filemarks. Naturally, the handle fully disassembles.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
