Blade: 20 percussion flaked arrowheads of multiple colored materials including obsidian, agate, flint, chalcedony, glass, and jasper
Sheath: Buckskin pouch with trade beads and grotesque sculpted from deer antler crown and fossil ivory thong slider
Description: 20 arrow hear points are beautifully pressure flaked from multiple colorful and historically significant materials. This type of arrowhead is commonly (and erroneously) called a bird point. In fact, each of these arrowheads would have been hafted on an arrow shaft and used for large game animals including deer, elk, and buffalo. The most common form found within the United States is the 'corner notch' variant..
The team of Tom Sterling and JP Higgins is a formidable force. Joe Higgins, who has been flint knapping knives for over 10 years, created the blades. This skill is matched in the detailed handle created by Tom Sterling, who has brought his attention to the buckskin pouch. The grotesque shows off his skill as an internationally known netsuke artist -- with its lifelike realism and three dimensionality to the carving. Exceptional work throughout.
