Description: This Wakizashi is the work of Rick Barrett, who has been forging Japanese swords for over 17 years. The blade was forged to shape from 1075 carbon steel and given a clay temper on the blade resulting in a clear toranha hamon, marked with choji. This pattern is shows irregular wave patterns. The resulting blade is soft and supportive at the spine, with a very hard blade edge.
The blade features a long Shinogi or ridge line and a medium sized point (chu-kissaki). A copper habaki protects the blade from scratches caused by the saya (sheath). The tang has been engraved with Mr. Barrett's mark. The kanji reads "Toshi Hisa Saku" ("Toshi Hisa made this"). Toshi Hisa is Rick's given Japanese smiths name. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
