Description: Assagai are the slender spear of the Bantu-speaking people of Africa -- so important was this spear to the native peoples, that a tree (Curtisia dentata) used for making the spears came to share the name. Admittedly, assagai were never really made from stone, however this black walnut stone age version is exceptional!
Dr. Joe Higgins pressure flaked the stripped obsidian point. This was attached to the black walnut haft with sinew by Tom Sterling. Furniture at the base is formed from ebony and fossil ivory. Accompanied by a walnut wall mount, which securely holds the assagai using a wood and fossil ivory pin. Exceptional work throughout!
The team of Tom Sterling and JP Higgins is a formidable force. Joe Higgins, who has been flint knapping knives for over 10 years, created the blade of this masterpiece with precision. This skill is matched in the detailed handle created by Tom Sterling, who has brought his attention to detail learned as an internationally known netsuke artist to this piece.
