Description: Bladesmith Nick Wheeler is among the most promising up and coming makers that I have encountered for quite some time. This clip point hunter has classic lines, but a feel and appearance that is uniquely Nick's work. The blade steel is forged from eight separate Damascus bars that were forged together in an opposing twist. The result is a blade that shows an amazingly tight repeating pattern, with the occasional larger "whirlpool". The joint between blade and stainless steel guard is perfectly executed. The guard meets neatly with the solid sambar stag handle. Sambar of this quality is increasingly hard to find in the United States. The base of the handle has been left with the natural texture of the stag and is finished off with a 416 stainless steel butt cap. The cap has been carved on the sites to perfectly meet up with the natural stag texture. Excellent fit and finish throughout. It is no surprise that Nick won "Best Fixed Blade" at the NWKC 2003 knife show with this hunter.
