Description: A J Hubbard, who has passed away, was one of the pioneers of Damascus made from stainless steel. His unique process was granted a patent and was extremely well done. He overcame the problems caused by the inclusion of chromium in stainless steel as was able to forge Damascus from all stainless steels. He made my first all stainless steel Damascus blade in April 1990 in an effort to see if the 440 series of heat treatable knife steels would weld to each other using his techniques. They did, and the rest is history.
That first blade and all subsequent blades exhibited outstanding sharpness. Strength and sharpening ease were at least as good as carbon steel Damascus, while showing no rust.
This dagger was created by him in the mid 1990's. It has been in a single collection and is in mint condition. The blade has a tremendous chatoyant effect similar to that of tiger's eye gemstones. This is perfectly met to the antiqued brass bolster. The tang is enclosed is a single piece ironwood handle with excellent grain. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
