Description: Jonny Walker Nilsson is one the true masters of the Sami styled knife. His work has been recognized for its innovations while working within this very traditional medium. This knife is truly a one-of-a-kind piece since no other horn knifemaker in Scandinavia has produced a sheath using a bent horn. The traditional Scandinavian pattern on the sheath is not scrimshaw, it is hand engraving darkened with pine bark powder. Both the back and front of the sheath have this engraving, though the back is less ornate. The detail is incredibly clear. Three dimensional cutouts are used throughout the sheath, revealing the blade enclosed therein as well as complex detailing that can only be appreciated through careful inspection.
The dramatic Damascus blade was forged by Mattias Styrefors. The handle is very traditional for the Sami Styled knife and has a slim oval shape that fits very comfortably into the hand. The reindeer antler in the handle has a slight gloss finish. The masur birch wood in the center of the handle has excellent grain structure that reminds me of the rays of the sun and has a smooth oiled finish. This is one of the most impressive traditional Nordic style knives I have seen.
