Description: Over the years, Mastersmith Bill Burke has become well known for making knives that are as high performance as hunters can get. Each knife is pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly.
Burke's heat treatment follows the formulas developed in conjunction with Mastersmith Ed Fowler, Bill's teacher. This time consuming technique creates some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere.
The recurve blade was hand forged from 52100 carbon steel and features a differential heat treatment, for a hard cutting edge and a soft, supportive spine. The spine has been nicely rounded for comfort. Bill's maker mark is shown on the left side of the blade. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to oil both the blade and natural sheep horn handle.
The handle is formed from sheep horn. Not only is sheep horn extremely durable, but when wet, sheep horn does not become slippery. The spacer is created by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect. The brass guard brings the weight back to the center of the knife. This knife is accompanied by a hand sewn pouch style leather sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
