Description: Coming back from the Blade Show with mastersmith test knives is one of my great highlights of the year. This year, two new mastersmiths joined the ranks. Five knives were made by each applicant that are the height of their work. These knives are judged by ABS Mastersmiths on fit and finish, as well as general artistry. The standards are exacting. The highlight of the five knives that are forged for the test is the mastersmith traditional pattern welded Damascus European quillion type dagger.
With this quillion dagger, Tim Foster passed and became an ABS Mastersmith. As you would expect, the fit and finish is exceptional. The Damascus is extremely detailed, showing a dramatic opalescence of diamonds. The blade is perfectly ground and is precision fit to the quillion. The fluted fossil walrus ivory is meticulous. This is among the most impressive pieces to ever be on BladeGallery.com.
This knife won the B.R. Hughs award for Best Knife by a new Mastersmith at the 2002 Blade Show.
