Description: This chef’s knife was made by Colorado bladesmith Chris Losacco of Elemental Forge. Chris creates chef’s knives that elevate your cooking experience. He focuses on kitchen cutlery because it requires the utmost skill, patience, and focus to execute well. Everything he creates is handmade, so no two knives are ever the same. Losacco started making knives because he wasn’t satisfied with buying pre-designed products made from subpar materials. Once he realized he could make drastically better knives, he was hooked. Making hand forged chef’s knives quickly became a passion.
This knife will be a perfect 'go-to' knife in the kitchen. The 6-3/4 inch blade provides plenty of reach, while still being easy to control. A gentle arc to the blade's edge makes this a perfect knife for both a rocking chop and a forward slice. Whether chopping onions, slicing tomatoes, mincing parsley, or portioning and slicing meats, this elegant chef's knife is sure to become a favorite in your kitchen.
The blade is hand forged from Losacco’s own damascus, combining 1084 and 15N20 carbon steel. A Fujiwara-inspired finger notch encourages a pinch grip for greater control. The flat-ground blade has a thin geometry and will effortlessly slice and chop. Losacco's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. Because the blade is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade from rust.
The handle is sculpted from Arizona desert ironwood. Ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a warm, dark-toned wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is extremely dense and durable. In fact, it is so dense that if a piece is dropped in water, it will sink! The front of the handle is sealed with an antiqued bronze ferrule. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
The knife is accompanied by a tin of Elemental Forge wax to protect the blade and wood handle. It also includes an edge guard for safe storage when not in use.
Excellent work throughout!
